Homemade Cat Food Recipes

Cat Food

As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat. – Ellen Perry Berkeley

Cats love being pampered to no end. Of course, it does not mean that they don’t shower love back on their owners. They can be loving pets to have around the house. Although these feline creatures are not considered to be as loyal as man’s best friend – the ever-faithful dog, they are loving companions. Every cat lover would want to pamper their pet with the best of things, and cats surely enjoy every bit of attention. They enjoy being loved and fussed around, especially when it comes to food.

Homemade cat food is probably the best thing you can ever give your feline. A balanced meal that is prepared at home is definitely better than the canned varieties for your pet’s health. After all, a cat is a part of the family, and commercially prepared food is only best given at regular intervals. Its diet can include food that is cooked. Raw food is fine once in a while. Given below are some healthy recipes that can be prepared at home. However, before you try out the same, you need to consult your veterinarian to know if this menu would suit your pet.

Fish Fun

Ingredients
Fresh Mackerel fillets/sardines (1½ pounds)
Green beans – coarsely chopped (½ pound)
Kelp powder (1 tablespoon)
Carrots – coarsely chopped (½ pound)
Celery – coarsely chopped (½ pound)
Spring water (4 to 6 cups)

Preparation
In a stainless steel pot, combine all the above ingredients. Add water to it. The quantity of water should be enough to cover the ingredients. Bring this mixture to a boil. Then, lower the heat. Allow it to simmer for half an hour. Once done, place the pot aside and allow it to cool down. After this, blend all the ingredients together with a hand mixer. Once it turns into a puree, place it in containers. These containers can be stored in the refrigerator and used for two days.

Scrumptious Sardines

Ingredients
Sardines (2 cans)
Water (1 cup)
Butter (as per requirement)
Some stalks of watercress
Fish sauce – Optional

Preparation
In a frying pan, place the sardines and add a small quantity of butter to it. Cook this on medium heat. Use a spatula to mash the sardines into the butter. Next, pour water into the pan and stir the ingredients till the mixture comes to a boil. Shred the watercress. Add this to the pan. Remove the mixture from heat. Place it aside to cool. You can add the fish sauce to the mixture while serving it. The fish sauce can be purchased from a supermarket.

Tempting Tuna

Ingredients
Tuna – canned in water (4 ounces)
Canola oil (1 tablespoon)
Egg – hard-boiled, chopped (1 large)
Bone Meal tablets – crushed (10 grain – 2 tablets)
Multiple vitamin-mineral tablet (1)

Preparation
Mix all the ingredients together and serve. You can even store it in the refrigerator for a couple of days, but do remember to heat it slightly before serving.

Feeding your cat tuna as an occasional treat is fine. Including it in your cat’s diet on a regular basis may lead to health problems like mercury poisoning. Consult your vet first.

Mackerel Magic

Ingredients
Mackerel – drained (½ cup)
Egg – beaten (1)
Whole – grain bread crumbs (1 cup)
Vegetable oil (1 tablespoon)

Preparation
First, preheat the oven to 350 °F. Place the mackerel in a medium-sized bowl. With the help of a spoon or fork, slice it into tiny pieces. Next, combine all the ingredients and mix them well. Place the mixture on a greased cookie sheet. Bake it for around 8 minutes. Allow it to cool. Once it cools down to room temperature, store it in an airtight container and place in a refrigerator.

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Jess and this is Nala.

I've loved cats since I was a child and over the years I became obsessed with them. I love all animals and pets, but I have studied cats with special passion. I’ve spent most of my life trying to understand them and why they are the best companions, if they ‘allow’ you to be their friend.

I put this blog together with the aim of sharing things about cats that interest me and that can help you to understand your own…

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you find something to interest you along the way.
